A man in Saas-Fee, Switzerland, fell into an 8-meter deep crevice in a glacier while walking with his pet chihuahua, which stayed by his side, ultimately helping search and rescue teams locate him. On July 5, the man accidentally broke through a snow bridge and fell into the glacier, becoming trapped in the ice, while his chihuahua remained at the edge of the crevice.

Fortunately, the man carried an amateur radio transmitter, allowing him to send a distress signal. Nearby, a passerby received the transmission and alerted the rescue team. Air Zermatt, the Swiss aerial rescue service, was notified and quickly dispatched a team alongside mountain rescue experts from the Valais region.

Upon arrival, the rescuers faced challenges due to the vast glacier terrain and the difficulty in identifying the crevice's opening. Fortunately, one rescuer spotted movement near a rock, revealing the chihuahua marking the man's fall location. The rescuers quickly reached the crevice's opening based on the chihuahua's position and successfully lowered themselves to rescue the man. Both the man and his chihuahua were subsequently airlifted to a hospital in Visp for treatment.
