Representing Taiwan, Huang Guanming from the Pingtung County Fire Department won a gold medal in men's badminton singles, showing exceptional talent not only in singles but also in doubles. Notably, New Taipei firefighter Chen Pengjun clinched the gold by defeating his opponent in an intense match, making this victory particularly meaningful, especially in contrast to a Chinese athlete celebrating in the ring waving a five-star flag.

The global spotlight in firefighting turned to the Fire Challenge, where the Taiwanese team secured the world championship title in the police and fire teams category. The swimming events also stood out, especially with a gold medal in the 50-meter breaststroke. Chen Xinhua from the Port Management Corps stated, “After about six years without competitions, there was significant tension entering this one, but we were relieved with a great result.”

Firefighters from across Taiwan, along with police officers, joined forces to compete in the 21st World Police and Fire Games, resulting in a remarkable achievement with a total of 164 medals, including 74 gold medals. Yu Hongqi, a section chief from the Training Center of the Fire Department, mentioned, “This year’s approach was different; any willing athlete representing their municipalities could participate as long as they meet certain capabilities. This approach proved effective, enabling more people to compete and yielding impressive results.”

The police and fire teams returned home with outstanding achievements, marking their best performance ever. They are set to return on the 9th, with the next games scheduled for two years later in Australia, where hopes are high for continued success on the international stage.
