Vietnam Eases Dual Citizenship Restrictions to Attract Overseas Nationals

On July 1st, Vietnam officially implemented a new law easing restrictions on dual citizenship applications, aimed at attracting overseas Vietnamese and high-skilled talent back to the country. This policy marks a significant change in Vietnam's nationality regulations, with Justice Minister Nguyen Hai Ninh stating that the relaxation aims to make conditions more open and transparent.
The Vietnamese government hopes to enhance the competitiveness of the AI and semiconductor industries by 2030 and is focusing on the economic strength of overseas nationals to stimulate more investments and technology transfers. Many Vietnamese new residents in Taiwan have expressed their support for this policy, anticipating a swift implementation of the new law to strengthen their investment capabilities.
According to official statistics, there are currently around 6 million Vietnamese nationals living abroad, with projected remittances for 2024 reaching $16 billion, reflecting Vietnam's growing global influence.
