A heat dome is affecting much of Europe. According to a report by BBC, this phenomenon has resulted in at least 6 deaths. Surprisingly, only about 20% of European households have air conditioning, with some countries having even lower rates—around 5% in the UK and just 3% in Germany. This is largely because most areas of Europe have a temperate maritime climate, resulting in historically low demand for air conditioning until the recent impacts of global warming have become increasingly evident.
